Why we refuse to only cover puzzles

Why we refuse to only cover puzzles

June 6, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

There's a lazy assumption that mobile means casual puzzles and nothing else. We pushed back on that from day one, and keeping the catalogue genuinely mixed is a deliberate rule, not an accident.

Phones now run proper RPGs, dense strategy games, slick arcade racers and atmospheric adventures. Ignoring all of that to cover yet another tile-matcher would be doing readers a disservice.

Each genre also stresses a phone differently, which is half the fun of testing. Racers hammer the battery, strategy games sip it, adventures lean on the screen quality. Covering the whole spread means our advice actually transfers.

So our review slots rotate on purpose. If you only ever see puzzles on a mobile site, someone stopped looking a few years ago.

The point of Pocket Verdict is that your phone is a real games machine. We'd rather celebrate that whole range than pretend it's a toy.
